Getting Started

Am I too old to begin strength training?+

Being older does not automatically mean you cannot become stronger. Your training simply needs to begin at a level that suits your current ability. The purpose of the assessment is to find that level.

Do I need to be fit before I start?+

No. You do not need to prepare yourself for personal training. Your programme should meet you where you are now.

What if I have not exercised for years?+

That is common. Many Darn Good Gym clients have been inactive for years rather than months. You will not be expected to train like someone who has remained active.

What if I have pain or an old injury?+

You should tell Chris about any pain, injury or medical history during your assessment. Darn Good Gym does not diagnose or treat medical conditions. If your concern is new, unexplained, acute or worsening, you may need to see an appropriate healthcare professional before beginning.

Do I need to finish physiotherapy first?+

If you are currently under the care of a physiotherapist or doctor, you should follow their advice about returning to exercise. Darn Good Gym often works with people who have already been medically cleared but need help rebuilding strength and confidence.

Training

What happens if an exercise feels uncomfortable?+

Chris will look at how the exercise is being performed, the amount of weight being used, the range of movement and how your body is responding. The exercise may be adjusted or replaced. New or worsening symptoms may require referral back to a healthcare professional.

Will every session be difficult?+

You will be challenged, but difficulty is not the only sign of a useful session. The challenge should suit your current ability and help you progress.

How quickly will I see results?+

This depends on your starting point, health history, training frequency, recovery and consistency. Some people notice early changes in confidence, movement quality or how everyday tasks feel. Meaningful strength takes time to build, and Darn Good Gym will not promise a fixed result within an unrealistic deadline.

Sessions & Pricing

How often should I train?+

Most clients train at least twice per week. Chris will discuss the most appropriate frequency with you after understanding your goals and schedule.

How long is each training session?+

Training sessions are approximately 60 minutes.

Where does training take place?+

Training takes place at a fitness facility in Jalan Senang, Singapore.

Do I have to buy a large package?+

Darn Good Gym currently bills by session rather than through a large package. The details will be explained clearly before you decide whether to continue.

Is the assessment really free?+

Yes. The 30-minute movement assessment is free and carries no obligation to continue.

Common Concerns

“I have tried personal training before. It did not work.”

You may have invested time, effort and money, but the programme was too generic, progressed too quickly, or pushed you harder instead of giving you better guidance.Darn Good Gym will not ask you to forget what happened and simply try harder.

What you did before
How your body responded
Where the programme may have broken down
What your current ability looks like
What needs to be different this time

You will not be promised an instant transformation. Instead, you will get a clearer starting point and a process that can be adjusted as you improve.

This May Not Be For You

Darn Good Gym will not be right for everyone

Your only goal is rapid weight loss
You want a dramatic short-term transformation
You want a high-intensity bootcamp experience
You want to be shouted at throughout your workout
You expect to be pushed through pain
You want the hardest possible session every time
You want a generic programme without an assessment
You are not willing to train consistently
You are not willing to progress gradually
You have an acute or worsening medical issue that has not been assessed

If you have a new or worsening medical concern, consult an appropriate healthcare professional before beginning training.
